Pregnancy

Teen Pregnancy is not planned, but might happen after having unprotected sex. At a young age, supporting a child may be difficult. You need money to buy food, diapers, and any other necessities for your baby. Most of you are probably thinking, what makes teen pregnancy so different from adult pregnancy? Well, teenage pregnancies carry extra health risks for both the mom and the baby.(5) When teens become pregnant, it is more likely that the child is born premature (before the 37th weekof pregnancy), and has a low birthweight, which means they may have health problems because their organs did not have enough time to develop.(4)

STD's

Sexually Transmitted Desieases are exposed through having sex with someone who is infected with an STD. Here is a list of STD's:

Gonorrhea: Gonorrhea is most common in young adults, but is curable. Gonorrhea doesn't always cause symptoms, especially in women. If Gonorrhea is not treated, it can cause epididymitis and pelvic inflammatory disease. Gonorrhea can pass from mother to child during pregnancy. (6)

Trichomoniasis: Trichomoniasis is usually cause by a parasite. It effects men and women, but are more common in women. Correct usage of latex condoms lower your risk, but doesn't eliminate the chance of catching it. (6)

HIV/AIDS: HIV is the advanced stage of AIDS, which kills your cells in your body's immune system. This is given through contact to somebodies blood, who has HIV. (6)

These STD's are mostly curable when treated right away, but if not treated over a long period of time, in rare cases it may become deadly.(6)
